Chalcopyrite is copper iron sulphide mineral, and is the most abundant copper ore available. It has a mohs hardness of 3.5-4, which makes it a big softie, so avoid rough edges. Chalcopyrite can also be called ‘peacock ore’ when it has been acid treated, this treatment causes the mineral to display iridescent blue/purple/pink hues. Due to this gems composition, it is best to avoid water all together. Water may cause rusting of the iron within. It is best to use a dry tissue or cloth to wipe away any dust and debris.
